What You Need
To try PS5X on Xbox Series X/S, prepare these five essentials before attempting to run compatible PS5 game files.
Important: The early game demonstrations cited here were on Xbox Series X; a package targeted at Series S is not proof of Series S game performance. Owning a PS5 disc or digital license does not automatically give you emulator-ready files.
Xbox Series X / S
Xbox One is not supported.
Developer Mode
Activate through Microsoft's official developer process.
Windows PC
Used for downloading the Xbox package and deploying via Device Portal.
NTFS USB Drive
Use a dedicated game folder with the required UWP read permissions.
Authorized Game Files
You need compatible files that you are legally entitled to use.
Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Follow these seven steps to install PS5X on Xbox Series X/S and test whether a supported PS5 game build can start.
Step 1 — Enable Xbox Developer Mode
Do: On your Xbox Series X|S, complete Microsoft's Developer Mode activation procedure ↗ using your own developer account, then switch the console to Developer Mode. Wait for Dev Home to load.
You should see: The console is in Dev Home, not the ordinary Retail Mode dashboard.
If it fails: First confirm the device and your developer-account eligibility in Microsoft's documentation. Do not download third-party jailbreak or activation packages. Fix Developer Mode activation.
Step 2 — Download the Official Xbox PS5X Build
Do: From your PC, visit the developer's Xbox Releases ↗. Select the Xbox Series build, read the release-specific instructions and unpack it on your PC. Distinguish an Xbox pre-release from a desktop KytyPS5 download.
You should see: The release's .msix installer and required items in the Dependencies folder. They must belong to the same release.
Reviewed Xbox release: xbox-1.1.26293.2037 · October 20, 2026; checked on October 21, 2026. A newer Xbox release may have been published since that review.
If it fails: If there is no matching Xbox package or its contents differ, stop and check that release's own Assets and notes. Identify the correct Xbox package.
Step 3 — Open Xbox Device Portal
Do: In Dev Home, read the Device Portal address shown by your own Xbox. Open it in a browser on the PC that can reach the console; authenticate only within the portal if prompted.
You should see: The Xbox Device Portal administration page with application deployment controls.
If it fails: Check Developer Mode, whether the portal is enabled, and PC-to-console network reachability. Never publish your portal address or login credentials. Fix a Device Portal connection.
Step 4 — Deploy MSIX and Its Dependencies
Do: In Device Portal, use Add to select the .msix and both files listed in that release's Dependencies folder, then deploy. In Dev Home set the installed app's type to Game, as the developer instructs.
You should see: KytyPS5/PS5X listed as an installed Xbox Developer Mode application with Game resource type.
If it fails: Capture the exact Device Portal error; verify the archive is the Xbox release and dependencies match it. Diagnose package deployment.
Step 5 — Prepare a Game Folder the App Can Read
Do: On your PC, format a dedicated USB drive as NTFS and prepare a folder for game files you are authorized to use. Set suitable UWP read access for that folder, following the developer's original USB instructions ↗. Connect the drive to Xbox Developer Mode and select Media when prompted.
The current developer notes say its library recognizes game directories containing eboot.bin (scanned up to two nested folder levels) and supported .zar archives. Game title identification depends on sce_sys/param.json. These are recognition conditions, not a guide to obtaining or bypassing protection on commercial game files. If you do not have authorized, compatible files, stop here; installing PS5X does not generate them.
You should see: The NTFS USB location can be selected in PS5X's Game folders settings, and the folder is readable by the app.
If it fails: Check NTFS format, the Media choice, the folder path and permissions. Privacy warning: granting ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES read access lets other UWP apps read that folder too; use a non-private folder and consider the documented package-specific SID option. Fix USB folder access.
Step 6 — Scan, Select and Attempt to Launch
Do: Open PS5X in Dev Home. Confirm your prepared folder under Game folders, then press Y on an Xbox controller to rescan the library (the developer also documents F5 on a keyboard). If recognized, choose a game from the launcher and use the launch action shown there.
You should see: A recognized title appears in the library. A title being listed does not mean it will successfully boot; launch may show a splash screen, gameplay, an error or a crash.
If it fails: An empty list suggests checking folder structure, eboot.bin or supported .zar recognition, sce_sys/param.json availability, scan depth, USB read access and a fresh rescan. A detected game that crashes points to a separate compatibility problem. Fix missing games or launch failure.
Step 7 — Verify What Actually Worked
Do: Record which stage you personally observed: Installed → Game detected → Booted → In-game → Playable after sufficient testing. The public label Reported to boot is reserved for attributed third-party evidence, not a claim that this site has run the game. Note the Xbox model, exact PS5X tag, game/build ID, controls, audio, session length and source of any FPS measurement.
You should see: A clear description of your actual result. A splash screen or a short video is not proof of stable playability. This site has not independently tested the following games.
If it fails: Compare with Xbox-specific game evidence rather than borrowing PC emulator reports. If a game runs briefly but crashes, record the scene and error for later comparison. How to document a test result.
PS5 Games Reported Running on Xbox
These are early Xbox Series X media-reported demonstrations, not a list of games proven stable or fully playable. Each source link goes to the supporting report, while a game link opens the relevant compatibility record if no independently useful game page is published.
| Game | Xbox model | Reported stage | FPS evidence | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quake II | Xbox Series X | Reported to boot | 25–45 FPS — early media estimate | Media report ↗ |
| GEX Trilogy | Xbox Series X | Reported to boot | Not verified | Media report ↗ |
| Hellboy: Web of Wyrd | Xbox Series X | Reported to boot | Not verified | Media report ↗ |
| Marvel Cosmic Invasion | Xbox Series X | Reported to boot | Not verified | Media report ↗ |
A game booting is not the same as being playable. The precise demo emulator tag and long-term stability have not been independently verified; Series X evidence does not establish Series S performance.
Having Trouble?
Device Portal won't connect
First check: Confirm Developer Mode is running and use the exact portal address displayed by Dev Home. Make sure the PC can reach the Xbox and that the portal is enabled.
What to record: What Dev Home shows, network reachability, error type (never credentials).
Next step: Fix Device Portal access.
MSIX installation failed
First check: Confirm the Xbox .msix and the two matching dependency files come from the same GitHub Xbox release, then read the Portal's actual error.
What to record: Release tag and error code, without private authentication data.
Next step: Diagnose MSIX installation.
My game does not appear in the library
First check: Verify NTFS, Media selection, read access, supported file structure (eboot.bin or .zar) and Y to rescan.
What to record: Xbox model, folder depth/type, whether PS5X marks the folder as unreadable (not copyrighted file contents).
Next step: Fix a missing game in the library.
The game boots but crashes or stays black
First check: Record game build and emulator tag, then distinguish game-rendering failure from an in-game screenshot defect fixed by a developer Release.
What to record: Exact game, stage, log/error and release tag.
Next step: Read actual Xbox release fixes.
The game is slow or has broken graphics
First check: Compare only records with the same Xbox model, emulator tag and scene. PS5X still has documented GPU and memory limits.
What to record: FPS measurement method, scene, input/audio and game build.
Next step: Check Xbox compatibility evidence.

How PS5X Works
PS5 game build → KytyPS5/PS5X translation → Xbox UWP + Direct3D 12 → Xbox Series hardware
PS5X implements selected system behavior and graphics translation needed by PS5 software in an Xbox Developer Mode app. Similar hardware does not mean native compatibility. Shader support, memory limits and game-specific behavior can prevent startup or continued play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an Xbox actually run PS5 games?
Only experimentally. Early demonstrations show selected PS5 game builds starting through PS5X, not normal Xbox backward compatibility or an official way to play the whole PS5 library.
Can I use PS5X on Xbox Series S?
The developer provides an Xbox Series X|S Developer Mode build. Early cited game demonstrations are for Series X. We do not present Series S FPS or playability claims without Series S test evidence.
Can I insert a PS5 disc into an Xbox?
No. PS5X does not make Xbox a PS5 disc reader or add PlayStation purchases to Xbox Store.
Where do the PS5 game files come from?
The emulator does not provide game files, firmware or keys. You need files you are authorized to use in a format the developer's loader can recognize. A purchased game or disc does not necessarily give you an emulator-ready file set; this site does not provide extraction, DRM bypass or unauthorized download instructions.
What format can PS5X scan?
The reviewed developer UWP notes document folders containing eboot.bin and supported .zar archives, with title metadata such as sce_sys/param.json, along with directory depth and read-permission constraints. See Step 5 and the full installation guide for the version-specific details.
Do I have to jailbreak my Xbox?
The current published approach uses Microsoft's Developer Mode on Xbox Series X|S. It is not an official Sony/Microsoft cross-console feature and does not advertise a Retail Mode jailbreak.
Does PS5X work on Xbox One?
No. The current port's developer notes exclude Xbox One.
Which PS5 games are fully playable on Xbox?
This site does not currently claim any of its four early media-reported demonstration games are fully playable. Reported to boot is not a substitute for sustained testing. Check the evidence list.
Will installing an update fix a black screen?
Not automatically. The October 19 black-screenshot fix refers to captured images, not every rendering black screen. You need the exact release tag, game build and applicable developer issue or game test.
How do I get help if I am stuck?
Open the matching symptom in Having Trouble? and follow its specific check, or read the detailed install guide. This site does not operate an unconfigured support inbox.
